Assessment

Adefarati won the 9 January 1999 election with 62.64% of the vote (328,053 votes) against the PDP's 37.36% (195,682), and governed Ondo from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2003 with Afolabi Iyantan as deputy, completing the term. He later ran as the AD presidential candidate in 2007 but died on 29 March 2007, weeks before the election.

Assessment

Adefarati governed on the Awoist welfare tradition — the AD's free-education and rural-development platform — and left office without a corruption case attached. No quantified record of infrastructure or service delivery survives in the public record, internal political fallout cost him support, and he lost the 2003 election to Olusegun Agagu of the PDP.
