The promise
As the first governor of Osun State — created on 27 August 1991 — to establish its capital administration at Osogbo and its civil service from scratch, on the SDP platform. Adeleke was known as 'Serubawon'.
Assessment
Institution-building had barely started when the elected government was dissolved in November 1993. Adeleke, patriarch of a prominent Osun political family, later served in the Senate and died in office in 2017; his brother Ademola Adeleke became governor of Osun in 2022.
