Free education, free health care and rural development, the Unity Party of Nigeria platform on which Ajasin was elected governor of the old Ondo State (then including today's Ekiti) in 1979.
Assessment

Implicit in his 1979 election and 1983 re-election as governor on the UPN platform.
Assessment
Ajasin won re-election in August 1983, but the electoral commission first declared his own deputy, Akin Omoboriowo — who had defected to the NPN and run against him — the winner. The announcement triggered the 'Ondo riots', weeks of arson and killing across the state, until courts confirmed Ajasin's victory and he was reinstated. He was then removed by the December 1983 coup. In the 1990s he chaired Afenifere and the pro-democracy coalition NADECO.
