Jegede v. Akeredolu (2020 governorship election petition)
Govt Won
What the case is about
PDP candidate Eyitayo Jegede challenged Akeredolu's re-election in the 10 October 2020 governorship poll, alleging irregularities and that Akeredolu and running mate Lucky Aiyedatiwa were not validly nominated by the APC.
Ruling & compliance
The Tribunal and Court of Appeal dismissed Jegede's petition, and the Supreme Court upheld those rulings 4-3 — a notably split decision, with three justices (Mary Odili, Tijjani Abubakar, and Ejembi Eko) dissenting in Jegede's favour.

EFCC v. Ondo Assembly Speaker Oloyelogun (jurisdiction dispute)
Govt Won
What the case is about
Speaker Bamidele Oloyelogun and two others, facing EFCC fraud charges over an alleged ₦2.4 million misappropriation, argued the 2022 Ondo State anti-corruption law meant only a state agency — not the federal EFCC — had jurisdiction to prosecute them.
Ruling & compliance
Justice Adebusoye held the state law in abeyance and ruled the EFCC retained full power to investigate and prosecute the lawmakers, rejecting the jurisdictional challenge.
Governance
Ajayi's impeachment dispute (2020)
Govt Won
What the case is about
Lawmakers loyal to Akeredolu moved to impeach Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi after his defection to the PDP and decision to contest the governorship against Akeredolu.
Ruling & compliance
The planned impeachment collapsed after 9 of the Assembly's 26 members publicly dissociated themselves from it, saying they were not convinced Ajayi had done anything warranting removal; Ajayi completed his term as deputy governor before leaving office in February 2021.
