Allegation
The EFCC charged Alao-Akala, a former commissioner and a businessman on an 11-count charge alleging a ₦8.5 billion road contract awarded to Pentagon Engineering Services for work across 33 local government areas between 2007 and 2009 without budgetary provision, plus a further ₦3.5 billion drilling-machine supply contract also awarded without budgetary provision.
Outcome / Status
After more than a decade in court, the Court of Appeal in Ibadan discharged and acquitted all three defendants in December 2021, ruling that the EFCC had failed to establish a prima facie case against them.
