Allegation
The EFCC arrested Daniel in October 2011 and brought a 38-count charge alleging theft of public funds, bribery, fraudulent conversion of public property and false declaration of assets worth ₦211.3 million, centred on claims that land allocated to registered owners was re-allocated to other applicants during his tenure.
Outcome / Status
After an 11-year trial, Justice Yargata Nimpar acquitted Daniel on all counts in 2022, ruling the prosecution was malicious, that the EFCC should not have used state fiat to prosecute action protected under the federal Land Use Act, and that the Abuja trial court in any case lacked jurisdiction to try a matter concerning Ogun State.
