The promise

Implicit in being sworn in as Governor of Ekiti State on 29 May 2003 after defeating the incumbent Niyi Adebayo.

Assessment

Fayose did not complete the term. The Ekiti State House of Assembly impeached him on 16 October 2006. His deputy Abiodun Olujimi briefly claimed the office; President Obasanjo then declared a state of emergency in Ekiti and appointed retired Brigadier-General Tunji Olurin as sole administrator for the rest of the term.

To improve infrastructure and livelihoods in a young, small state created in 1996.

Assessment

The first term's flagship Ekiti State Poultry Project 'never got off the ground'; the associate who managed it testified that state money routed to it was used instead to build a house for Fayose in Ibadan and buy a car for his mother. The House of Assembly impeached him in October 2006 (a removal courts later ruled invalid) and he left the country to avoid EFCC arrest. No documented development record survives for 2003–2006.
