The EFCC opened a probe into an alleged ₦118 billion contract scam under Ikpeazu, including the diversion of ₦10 billion earmarked for an Abia airport project awarded to Ferotex Construction Company that a forensic review found to be largely non-existent.

A KPMG review commissioned by the Otti administration and covering 29 May 2015 to 28 May 2023 found that a total of ₦1,959,011,334,397 was allegedly taken out of the Abia State treasury outside due process during Ikpeazu's tenure, including circumvention of the state's Public Procurement Law in contract awards.
Outcome / Status
A former Ikpeazu-era commissioner disputed the characterisation of the KPMG work as a forensic audit, calling it a financial process review, and said an audit instead showed Ikpeazu left a net credit balance of ₦3.49 billion for Otti; the matter remained contested as of the most recent reporting.
