Assessment
Kangiwa died in 1981 from injuries sustained in a polo accident, the first serving Nigerian governor to die in office. His deputy, Garba Nadama, completed the term, was elected in his own right in 1983, and was removed by the December 1983 coup. The Birnin Kebbi stadium is named after Kangiwa.
