Trial of the Dimka coup plotters
Govt Won
What the case is about
The prosecution of Lt-Col Bukar Suka Dimka and others for the 13 February 1976 coup attempt in which Murtala Mohammed was assassinated near the Federal Secretariat in Lagos.
Ruling & compliance
Dimka and dozens of others, including former commissioner for defence Major-General Iliya Bisalla, were convicted and executed by firing squad in 1976. The plot failed for lack of wider military support, and the Supreme Military Council appointed Obasanjo to succeed Murtala.
