Assessment
Completed the Lagos Street road easing traffic to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and created jobs for hundreds of young men and women as street cleaners through the Borno State Environmental Protection Agency.

Campaigned on accountable management of state resources, including the large sums received for reconstruction and IDP support.
Assessment
Petitions to the EFCC alleged over ₦600 billion accrued to Borno State since June 2011 with no significant projects to show for it, and separately that Shettima misdirected funds and donations meant for displaced persons' welfare; eight of his 22 commissioners were invited for questioning over the allegations.
