Africa Check found no evidence for these figures and identified two further problems: infant mortality is conventionally measured per 1,000 live births, not per 100,000; and the 545 figure matches Nigeria's 2008 national maternal mortality ratio (NDHS), not a Delta State infant-mortality rate. Africa Check also found no evidence Delta had the lowest infant mortality rate in 2012 — that distinction belonged to Osun State. The administration's separately reported health-infrastructure investments (Delta State University Teaching Hospital upgrades, a partnership with UT Southwestern Medical Center) are not affected by this correction, but the mortality-reduction claim itself is unsupported and has been removed from the record pending a correctly labeled, primary-sourced figure.
